Homeowners in Mattapoisett were granted preliminary approval in a class-action lawsuit against Bouchard Transportation Co. Inc., after an oil spill damaged their property.

This is the second class action lawsuit filed against the company. Property owners that live outside of Mattapoisett won settlement of $11.5 million. The estimated recovery for each home ranges from $1,500 to $30,000, depending on the amount of damage and whether the property had a private or shared beach.

Bouchard owned a barge that struck an underwater ledge and leaked 98,000 gallons of oil an polluted more than 90 miles of the coast.

The case against the company was brought on by nearly 1,000 homeowners in Mattapoisett.
