FedEx Corp. will be paying $8 million in order to settle false claims allegations that wrongly blamed security delays for the reason that there were late deliveries to U.S. government agencies.
Although security measures were tightened in the wake of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a FedEx employee alleged that FedEx couriers blamed late packages on security measures at government buildings.
The case was brought under the federal False Claims Act, which allows citizens to be awarded when they file lawsuits that expose fraud against the government.
A spokesman stated that they did not admit any wrongdoing by paying the settlement, but wanted to avoid a costly legal battle.
